Having the Vision

ye care has come a long way since the first pair of spectacles were invented centuries ago. Today, Dr. Jeffrey Zimm of the All Saints Eye Center stands at the forefront of an exciting innovation in eye care - laser vision correction.
Among the first doctors in Collier County to use the excimer laser for the correction of vision, Dr. Zimm now is one of the most experienced laser vision correction specialists in Naples.
Though Dr. Zimm's practice provides a range of services, including advanced cataract surgery, it is laser vision correction - specifically the LASIK procedure - that has garnered the greatest attention.zimm2.jpg
"LASIK enables people to have rapid improvement in eyesight with minimal discomfort," explains Dr. Zimm. "One of my patients had the procedure performed and two hours later went back to work. The results are quite spectacular."
The LASIK procedure - used to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism - is done on an out-patient basis and takes only a few minutes. After the procedure, patients are given eyedrops and occasionally medication is needed to soothe any discomfort. Most patients resume their normal activities within 24 hours.
The number of people who may be candidates for laser vision correction has greatly increased. Due to technological advances, laser vision correction has largely replaced radial keratonomy, or RK, which enjoyed popularity in the late '80s and early '90s. And many doctors believe that the number of laser vision patients will only grow in the years to come.
"It very well may be that laser vision correction becomes so commonplace," says Dr. Zimm, "that at the age of adulthood, people will undergo laser vision correction in much the same way that children now get braces."§
